Classic Manhattan Cocktail

Classic Manhattan Cocktail

Classic Manhattan Drink Recipe

Step into a timeless classic with the traditional Manhattan Cocktail, an elegant blend of smooth whiskey, sweet vermouth, and aromatic bitters.

To begin, combine equal parts sweet vermouth and whiskey into a shaker filled with ice. Add a dash or two of Angostura bitters for depth and complexity. As you shake vigorously to blend, the chill of the ice mellows the spirits without diluting them. Strain into a chilled glass and add a Luxardo cherry for sweetness and a touch of bitterness. Finally, add a zesty orange peel, twisted to release its essential oils, creating a vibrant burst of citrusy aroma.

With each sip, the harmony of flavors comes alive, as the subtlety of bourbon mingles with the warmth and sweetness of vermouth, while the bitters add complexity and balance. The Manhattan Cocktail is a classic choice for those who appreciate the simplicity of a well-crafted elixir, hitting your palate with a smooth and pleasing taste that is both iconic and sophisticated.

So, savor each sip and let the Manhattan Cocktail take you into a world of timeless elegance. Cheers to the timeless Classic Manhattan Cocktail!

How to make a Classic Manhattan?

With only 2 main ingredients, a classic Manhattan is one of the easiest cocktails to make. While rye whiskey is the most common many types are acceptable.  My favorite happens to be Jameson Irish whiskey so that is what is in this recipe but feel free to use any that you wish.

Ingredients

  • Sweet Vermouth
  • Whiskey – Many types may be used
  • Angostura Bitters
  • Luxardo Cherry
  • Orange Peel

Recipe Steps

With good quality ice already in your shaker cup, add in the vermouth, whiskey, and bitters. The ice type will make a difference, so be sure to see the different cocktail ice types explained in our blog post.

Shake the mixture until well mixed and cold. Strain the whiskey/vermouth mixture into an ice-filled whiskey glass. We love using a single ice sphere that is crystal clear, but it is not necessary.

Add in a Luxardo cherry and then garnish with an orange peel twist.
